U saved us. Bless you. Indebted to u 4ever, The Lewis family. Thank you Tanya, I was really touched by your comment, I am so very pleased that my blog has helped you and your daughter so much! But then music does have very special powers! Please send me biweekly ideas for piano music sheets with hand fingering. Thanks Elena. Thank you so much for sharing this, we have a fancy electronic baby grand style piano and it is supposed to make learning piano super easy for kids… well, we should have saved our money.
You are a great teacher. This is going to help a great deal. Thanks Jill! You are so kind! You are very welcome! It always goes down well because of the familiar tune. If your child is beginning to learn the piano, you can print off beginner-friendly sheet music for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, as well as follow the step-by-step lesson plan on how to teach it at home here.

If the child can read, suggest they point to the words on the music as they sing. Explain that the right hand plays the tune.

Talk the child through the fingering of each note, line by line as detailed below. Gently touching the fingers in the order that they must be played can be a help. Practice One Phrase At A Time Encourage the child to attempt one line of the song at a time and gradually build it up, phrase by phrase. Sing along as you play — this helps prevent them from getting lost, as well as anticipating what comes next.
Tell An Effective Story With Your Website
With a bit of practise the child will soon memorise the tune and want to play it over and over. This is excellent for developing a wide range of skills: memory, patterns and sequences, aural recognition of intervals and finger strengthening — to name but a few! Ask the child to play the right hand tune while you play the left hand so that they can hear how both hands and the musical line fit together. This may be the first time that they have had a new position for the left hand, so spend a little time getting used to the C below middle C.
Explain that the left hand is in the same place as the right hand but one octave lower. The left hand should be approached in the same way as the right hand. Follow the fingering as detailed on the sheet music above and build it up gradually, working out each phrase at a time. Teaching our children to become tuneful singers opens so many doors for them.
My four year old and two year old can sing and sign do re mi after just watching Campfire Song lesson a couple times! They are very excited to get their xyliphone and start the lessons. Thank you! Wonderful tips and I love the addition of bebop to the recommendations for very little people!
Excellent explanation of the Curwen Hand signs. I have just recently stumbled across your website, while searching for ideas with teaching my 4th — 6th grade music class, how to play recorder. I also teach K-3rd music and am finding wonderful resources, for them as well! I have shared a video from Prodegies with some of my younger students and they really loved it! Thanks for sharing all your great advice. As someone raised with no musical training I appreciate all of the help I can get with my children.
I love Prodigies Music, and so do my students! My students actually beg me to play it!
